Union is 36-17 winner

Chase Frederick’s conversion reception in OT was the difference in Mohawk’s victory.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Linnell Robinson’s 13-yard touchdown run with 8:29 remaining in the second quarter gave Union the lead for good in a 36-17 victory over Shenango Friday.

After a scoreless third quarter, Union increased its lead to 24-10 on two Jordan Rooney TDs, one of which was a 100-yard interception return.

Rooney is a senior safety.

Robinson ran for two TDs and caught a TD pass for another, while Union’s Mike Pelto completed 8-of-13 passes for 129 yards.

Ryan Tanner’s 37-yard touchdown run with six seconds remaining in the first quarter put Shenango ahead, 10-6, before Union took control.

Shenango, however, had a 241-135 edge in rushing yards and a 143-129 advantage in the air for the Wildcats, who were led by Aaron Maxwell’s six catches for 134 yards. One of Maxwell’s catches was a 71-yard TD from Tanner.

Shenango was also penalized eight times for 105 yards.

Both teams are 1-4 overall. League-wise, Union is 1-4, while Shenango is 1-3.

Mohawk 30,
Freedom 28 (OT)

FREEDOM, Pa. — Chase Frederick’s conversion reception from Seth Powell was the difference in overtime.

Mohawk (4-1, 3-1 Tri-County North) overcame a 22-0 halftime deficit to force overtime. Powell scored on a 1-yard run, then hit Frederick with a 59-yard touchdown pass.

Powell also connected with Frederick for a 25-yard score.

In the overtime, Travis Schubert scored on a 1-yard run to give Mohawk its first lead.

After Freedom’s Scott Freeman scored from the 2 to make it 30-28, Freedom’s (1-4) conversion run was stopped.

Wilmington 43,
Reynolds 0

NEW WILMINGTON — Kris Burns scored three touchdowns as Wilmington (4-1, 3-0 District X AAA) blanked Reynolds.

Burns rushed five yards for one score, returned a punt 53 yards for another and caught a 27 yard pass from Kollen Fulkman for the third.

Fulkman also ran for a score, while Matt Wagner and Phillip Woods rounded out the scoring.

Reynolds fell to 1-4, 1-2 in the conference.
