Mooney cruises in Buffalo

The unbeaten Cardinals blanked St. Francis 21-0.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Michael Zordich rushed nine times for 99 yards Friday to lead the Mooney High football team to a 21-0 victory over St. Francis.

Zordich’s runs included touchdowns of 61, 59 and 15 yards in leading the unbeaten Cardinals (6-0) to victory. Mooney is ranked the state’s top Division IV team in this week’s Associated Press poll and is the top team in Region 13 of the computer playoff ratings.

The Mooney defense limited the Raiders to 100 rushing and 25 passing yards.

St.Vincent-St. Mary 44,

Chaney 12

AKRON — Unbeaten St. Vincent-St. Mary (6-0) broke away with a 30-point surge in the second quarter handing the Cowboys their sixth straight loss.

Carnell Evans rushed 13 times for 101 yards, which included a 57-yard touchdown run for St. Vincent-St. Mary.

Marquel Smith gained 63 yards on 13 tries for the Cowboys.

St. Vincent-St. Mary quarterback Vincent Pelini, connected on 7 of 11 passes for 135 yards and two TDs.

Chaney failed to complete a pass in three attempts and finished with 151 yards rushing.

St. Vincent-St. Mary had a total 354 yards.

Canton Central Catholic 44,

Beaver Local 27

CANTON — Max Coloner of the Crusaders (3-2) rushed for 138 yards on 22 carries, which included touchdown runs of 2, 3, 40 and 5 yards.

The Beavers’ (1-5) Ethan Russell carried 24 times for 163 yards and he scored on 1 and 47 yard runs and he returned a punt 70 yards for another score.

The Crusaders had 367 total yards of offense and the Beavers 320.

West Branch 14,
Canton South 11

CANTON — Corey Catania rushed 4 yards for a touchdown and Eric Bates caught a 16-yard pass from Steve McNeeley to spark West Branch (5-1) in the Northeast Buckeye Conference game.

David Whipple caught a 5-yard TD pass from Matt Trissel for Canton South (3-3), which picked up four points on two safeties.
