Youngstown firefighters battle two arson blazes

YOUNGSTOWN — A vacant apartment at 1402 Bellview Ave. was intentionally set on fire around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the fire department said. Crews attacked the fire on the first and second floor. Damage was set at $5,000 and demolition requested.

Earlier Thursday, a fire was deliberately set in the kitchen of a vacant house at 237 Superior St. and extended to the second floor just before 8 a.m., the fire department said.

Crews found the front and rear doors open and some windows broken out or open. Damage was set at $9,000, a total loss, and demolition requested.
