CHICAGO — Dahlia blooms exhibited by Harriet Chandler and Jim Chue at the American Dahlia and Midwest Dahlia Conference Show held Sept. 6 at Pheasant Run Resort, garnered several awards for the long-time growers.

Their dahlia, “Embrace,” received the coveted Mark Alger President’s Cup Award as the best BB size dahlia in the show and the Elmer Anderson Memorial Award in the large-grower section.

Their “Badger Twinkle” entry received the Miniature Semi-Cactus Award, their “Brookside J. Cooley” entry received the Informal Decorative Award and their “Chimacum Troy” entry captured the best miniature ball award.

Several local society members received awards at the Aug. 25 Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society Show held at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Kathy and Randy Foith were named reserve champions, and Linda Vuletich was the best novice. Winning entries were also submitted by Mary Lou Jessop, Alice Lang, Jim Chuey, Harriet Chandler and Dave and Joyce Habeger.

The MVDS meets at 2 p.m. the second Sunday of each month at the Davis Education Center in Mill Creek Park.
