Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Brown waived extradition from Pennsylvania.

WARREN — Two city men have been indicted on charges that they committed separate homicides on North Park Avenue within a month of each other.

Mario Q. Sellers, 23, of 516 Austin Ave. S.W., and Steven D. Brown, 29, of 3009 Aris St., N.W., were indicted Monday by a Trumbull County grand jury. They will be arraigned on the charges Thursday before Common Pleas Court Judge John M. Stuard.

Sellers is charged with a single count of murder with a specification that he committed the crime with a firearm. If convicted he could be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison.

He is accused of killing of Joseph D. Daniel, 33, of Palmyra Road Southwest in Warren, after Daniel left Benji Brown’s Bar and Grill, 2261 North Park Avenue N.W., July 29. Police said Daniel was shot several times in front of witnesses.

Second case

Brown was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His indictment says he also committed the crimes while using a firearm.

He is accused of killing Johnny Williamson, 24, in Williamson’s 1535 North Park Ave. home Aug. 23.

Brown waived extradition from Pennsylvania and was brought to Trumbull County after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor drug charges in Mercer County. He was arrested on the murder charge in a Hermitage hotel Aug. 24.

If convicted of the charges, Brown could be sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility for parole or life in prison with eligibility for parole after 20, 25 or 30 years in prison.

Both men are in the Trumbull County Jail.

The killings were the seventh and eighth recorded in the city for the year.
