Trumbull MetroParks seeks volunteers for planning panels

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

WARREN — After one meeting and the formation of committees, the Trumbull County MetroParks is still accepting additional volunteers to plan for the future use of the county’s park land.

Jonathan Millea, who is working on a county parks master plan for the county planning commission and the MetroParks Board, said the four committees established are focused on the Mahoning River, trails, conservation and recreation.

The river committee will explore opportunities for water recreation and conservation on MetroPark properties. The trail committee will focus on finding possibilities for nature trails, hiking routes and bicycle paths. The conservation committee will work to create recommendations on land preservation and nature awareness. The recreation committee will be charged with developing ideas for recreational amenities and events in order to promote exercise and healthful lifestyles.

About 40 people attended the first meeting Oct. 4. Those volunteering for committees will meet two to four times over the next month to formulate their recommendations.

Focus groups are also meeting to discuss such ideas as marketing and management.
