Penn State-Beaver enrollment up 9%

Saturday, November 24, 2007

MONACA, Pa. — Enrollment at Penn State Beaver rose by 9 percent this fall, reaching 793 students. The jump is in keeping with a rise in enrollment at most of the University’s locations. Beaver campus and university officials attribute the growth to a sharp increase in applicants, the quality of faculty and teaching, state-of-the-art technology on campus, additional academic and athletic programs and a growing awareness of the value of a Penn State education. Total fall enrollment at Penn State’s twenty campuses is 76,401. Four additional Penn State locations bring the university’s total fall enrollment to 85,600.

“We’re at capacity in our residence hall for the first time in quite awhile,” said Beaver campus Chancellor Gary Keefer. “The increase in students provides such a vibrant atmosphere here. In part, we attribute the jump to increased scholarships for new and continuing students as well as the addition of two more varsity teams in women’s basketball and men’s soccer.”

Beaver campus offers the first two years of more than 160 baccalaureate degrees at Penn State. In addition, Beaver offers five baccalaureate degrees that can be completed here: information science and technology; communications; business administration; applied psychology; and letters, arts, and sciences. Associate degrees are available in business administration; information science and technology; science; and letters, arts and sciences.
