2 arrests in shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Two arrests have been made in the weekend shooting death of James E. Dow. Detective Sgt. John Kelty said Edward E. Taylor II, 19, of Youngstown turned himself in to police in Allentown, Pa., late Tuesday. He is charged with complicity to commit murder. Around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 17-year-old D’Metri Lee of Youngstown was arrested at a house on the South Side by Kelty and members of the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force. Lee, who is charged with murder, was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center. Lee, who turns 18 on Dec. 7, is a junior at Chaney High School, Kelty said. Dow, 28, of South Lakeview Avenue, was found shot to death around 6:45 p.m. Sunday in the basement of 145 Thornton Ave. on the North Side. Kelty said the motive was drugs and robbery. He said there are more suspects.

Official vote count

LISBON — The outcomes of all the races and issues in Columbiana County did not change during the official count on Wednesday, county election officials said. Lois Gall, the county’s election director, said some vote totals did change. The Wellsville mayor’s race, where incumbent Joseph Surace beat David Lloyd by four votes, and the East Palestine council race, where Charles McGuire had two more votes than Donna McConnell, for the third vacant seat, qualify for an automatic recount.

Prime Outlets parking

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Mercer County safety officials are trying to avoid the traffic congestion caused last year at the start of the holiday shopping season at the Prime Outlets at Grove City. Pennsylvania State Police urge motorists taking Interstate 79 at exit ramp 113 to prepare in advance and stay in the right lane. Those passing by should remain in the left lane. Motorists are reminded not to park along the interstate as it will cause hazardous conditions and those vehicles will be subject to towing. Prime Outlets will have additional parking and a shuttle service near Veterans Road.

OSHP campaign

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post, to kick off a Buckle Up For A Safe Holiday Season campaign, will be handing out vehicle litter bags that contain educational pamphlets and children’s items such as coloring books, crayons, candy and kids’ meal vouchers for Chilli’s Restaurant in Boardman. The giveaway runs through Dec. 21 or until supplies run out. The patrol is asking that those who pick up litter bags at the post, 500 S. Broad St., donate one nonperishable food item to be given to a local charity at the end of the campaign. The donation is not required.

Lanterman’s event

YOUNGSTOWN — The holiday spirit will fill Lanterman’s Mill during the “Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Mill” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The festivities include a visit with Santa, unique gifts, craft demonstrations, chestnuts roasting over an open fire and live musical entertainment. This free event is sponsored by the Beecher Foundations and Farmers National Bank.

Boy held in threats

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A 14-year-old boy accused of making two bomb threats at New Castle Area High School has been charged in juvenile court. City police said the youth was placed in the Keystone Adolescent Center in Greenville, Pa., while awaiting a juvenile court hearing on charges of terroristic threats, threatening to use weapons of mass destruction and criminal use of a communication facility. Police said the first bomb threat was made Friday to the school. The second threatening call was made Sunday to the Lawrence County 911 Center. Police said they were able to identify the suspect by playing the recorded calls for students and faculty. When the boy was arrested, a cellular telephone with the number used to call the 911 center was found in his possession.
