Murder suspect identified

CAMPBELL — Police have identified a suspect in the murder of Marvin L. Hodges, who was shot Thursday outside the Michael J. Kirwan Apartment complex on Jackson Street.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Melvin Edward Johnson Jr., 23, of 2046 McClure St. in Youngstown, in connection with Hodges’ murder.

The shooting is believed to have been preceded by a verbal altercation. Hodges, 29, was found at about 3 a.m. with four bullet wounds to the head and chest, according to police reports. He was pronounced dead later that day.
