Teen charged with shooting father

APOLLO, Pa. (AP) — An 18-year-old has been held for trial in the shooting of his father during an argument between his parents.

Jacob Leonard of Washington Township was held on attempted homicide and related charges after a preliminary hearing Friday. But his father wants the charges dropped, saying it’s a misunderstanding.

John Leonard was shot in the back with a 9 mm handgun July 28 from the second story of the family’s home.

Police say Jacob Leonard told them his parents were arguing in the driveway and that his father started driving an SUV while his mother, Kathy, was trying to enter it. Afraid she was falling, Leonard shot at the vehicle.

A district judge refused to lift an order prohibiting contact between the father and son.
