Butler to show works
of Italian photographer

YOUNGSTOWN — An exhibition by noted Italian photographer Giuseppe Leone titled “Il Barocco e le Feste Religiose in Sicilia” (The Sicilian Baroque and Traditional Religious Festivals) will open Sunday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., and run through Nov. 29. Admission is free.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Consulate of Italy in Detroit, the Italian Institute of Culture in Chicago, and the Butler. It consists of more than 80 black-and-white and color images taken by Leone.

The first part of the exhibition includes photographs inspired by the Baroque architecture of Sicily’s Noto Valley, which includes the cities of Catania, Siracusa and Ragusa. The second part features photographs of the religious festivals that take place in Sicily throughout the year.
