Mahoning commissioners make amends with workers

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners have approved a wage reopener that provides a $1,200 signing bonus and a 2 percent pay increase to about 200 union workers at the county’s Department of Job and Family Services.

The workers, belonging to American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2001 — the largest union representing county government workers — have already ratified the reopener.

The workers, who occupy caseworker, clerical and fiscal office positions, earn between $10 and $22.98 per hour, said Susan Quimby, the county’s human resources director. The 2 percent increase took effect May 27, and the signing bonus will be paid in late June, Quimby said.
