Bank robber sentenced to prison

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is going to prison for 2 1/2 years for robbing a bank in Struthers and stealing a check from his employer.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, imposed the sentence today on Cory E. Sheely, 29, of Bancroft Avenue, after Sheely had earlier pleaded guilty to the robbery and theft charges.

Sheely admitted robbing the First Place Bank inside the Nemenz IGA supermarket on Creed Street in Struthers of $2,120 on Dec. 9.

He also admitted stealing a check from his employer on Nov. 21. The check, in the amount of $1,400, bounced when Sheely’s girlfriend cashed it after Sheely had told her it was his legitimate paycheck, said J. Michael Thompson, assistant county prosecutor.
