Last week: Rory Sabbatini won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial for his fourth PGA Tour victory, beating Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer with a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff.
Notes: Jack Nicklaus founded the event in 1976 and won the 1977 and 1984 titles. He made his last competitive appearance in the tournament in 2005. ... Tiger Woods, the 1999-01 winner, is coming off a 37th-place tie three weeks ago in The Players Championship. ... Phil Mickelson is making his first start since winning The Players. ... Justin Rose, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els played in the BMW PGA Championship last week in England. Rose lost a playoff to Anders Hansen, while Singh, the 1997 Memorial winner, tied for third. Els, the 2004 Muirfield winner, tied for 24th in the European tour event. ... Masters champion Johnson is coming off a playoff victory two weeks ago in the AT&T Classic. ... The Stanford St. Jude Championship is next week in Tennessee, followed by the U.S. Open at Oakmont in Pennsylvania.

Last year: Bobby Wadkins won his first Champions Tour title in nearly five years, shooting 62-71-70 for a one-stroke victory over Raymond Floyd. Wadkins also won the Ford Senior Players Championship in July.
Last week: Denis Watson took advantage of Eduardo Romero’s late mistakes to win the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. The victory was Watson’s first victory in the United States since he won three PGA Tour events in 1984.

PGA EUROPEAN TOUR
Celtic Manor Wales Open

NATIONWIDE TOUR
LaSalle Bank Open
Glenview, Ill.

Last year: Jason Dufner won his second career Nationwide Tour title, closing with a 70 for a one-stroke victory over Cliff Kresge. Dufner finished eighth on the money list to earn a PGA Tour card.
Last week: Paul Claxton became the first player to earn more than $1 million on the Nationwide Tour, winning the inaugural Melwood Prince George’s County Open to push his career total to $1,101,672. Claxton earned $108,000, closing with a 5-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over Jaco Van Zyl and James Driscoll.
