Man on parole arrested in Wal-Mart robbery

BOARDMAN — Township police arrested a Youngstown man already on parole for aggravated robbery and other charges, charging him with the aggravated robbery of a discount store.

Shawn L. Green, also known as Sean Green, 34, of Almyra Avenue, was arrested Friday afternoon at Community Corrections Association, Market Street, when he went to enroll in an in-house program conducted there, said Detective Glenn Patton.

Green, who was picked up by Patton and members of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, was charged with aggravated robbery stemming from an incident earlier this month at Wal-Mart.

An employee at the Doral Drive store told police that a man came up to a register at the store early the morning of May 19. A cashier totaled the items the man, later identified as Green, brought to the register at about $127.

He then handed the cashier a calling card wrapped in a note that said, “If you say a word, I’ll pull this trigger and blow your brains out,” a police report said.

The cashier didn’t see a weapon, but the man kept his hand near his waist band as if he had one.

He grabbed the bag with the merchandise and walked out of the store to a waiting car.

Records show that Green was released from prison in November and placed on parole after serving 14 years on several charges, including aggravated robbery in both Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Green also is awaiting trial in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on a drug possession charge out of Youngstown.

Green’s preliminary hearing on the latest aggravated robbery charge is set for Thursday in Mahoning County Court.
