Drowning Pool coming to The Wedge

There’s little debate among the members of the Dallas-based band Drowning Pool that life has thrown the alt-metal act plenty of curves. Initially, the band had the world at its feet with its 2001 debut “Sinner” going platinum six months after its release, while hit single “Bodies” had Ozzfest fans excited about the future.

However, that all came crashing down in 2002 when original frontman Dave “Stage” Williams died of natural causes. While the outfit soldiered on with new singer James “Gong” Jones, including the 2004 release of “Desensitized,” the match wasn’t right. Eventually the group called upon its old friend Ryan McCombs.

With McCombs in the fold, the band got to work on its third effort “Full Circle,” which is due out July 24. The album title is telling of the band’s current mindset. It’s the notion of having successfully weathered the storm that allows the group to finally feel comfortable about looking forward.

Drowning Pool will perform Tuesday at The Wedge in Austintown.
