African-American achievers festival set for Friday in Warren


WARREN – The Trumbull County African-American Achievers Association Homecoming Festival begins Friday and runs through the weekend, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.

Proceeds from the 22nd annual celebration on Courthouse Square will benefit local charities and youth programs. It is held in memory of the late Van Williams, who founded the achievers association in 1985 and Achievers Hall of Fames and Festival in 1987.

The festival kickoff is a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon Friday. There will be karaoke at 3 p.m. and Old School Band at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, a parade will begin at noon at the Second Baptist Church on Main Street and travel along Main to the square. There will be a talent show at 2 p.m., dance line at 4 p.m. and ballroom dancing at 5 p.m. Total Package Band will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.

There will be gospel on Sunday. The day will also include choirs, soloists, musicians, mimes, puppets, Messiah dancers and drama group. For more information, call (330) 399-6525ok or (330) 507-1016.ok
