Police arrest man on weapons charges

YOUNGSTOWN — A man was arrested on weapons charges after homeowners complained he was wandering around their property drunk with a gun, police reported.

Andre L. Leonard, 34, of West Laclede Avenue was arrested at 3:56 a.m. Sunday in a yard on Hudson Street. Police found a .357 magnum there with five rounds of hollow point bullets.

Police said that when they arrived, Leonard ran into the back yard and threw something behind a tree. Then he walked over to the officers, who said he appeared to be drunk.

He was questioned, but was “too intoxicated to make any sense,” the report said.

He was handcuffed and put in the cruiser, then police talked to the homeowners, a man and a woman. They said they had no idea who he was or why he was on their property.

The woman said he stumbled onto the porch, holding the gun, and made a drunken, vulgar reference to wanting sex. He tried to grab her, and she and the man told him to leave, the report said.

He tried to get into their house, but they locked him out and called police, the report said.

Officers checked the backyard and found the gun. Leonard was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, having a weapon while legally prohibited from doing so and having a weapons while intoxicated. He was taken to the Mahoning County Jail to await arraignment in Youngstown Municipal Court, the report said.
