BOARDMAN — Rain didn’t stop the party at West Boulevard Elementary.

The Family Fun Carnival for students, faculty, staff and their family members just moved inside Friday as the rain approached.

The event is held in celebration of the school year’s end, and all the hard work everyone did during the year.

“We’re awarding them for all their great work,” said Cherie Covan, the school’s Parent Teacher Association chairwoman for the event.

It cost $1 for children to get in, which gave them access to all the games, the inflatable jumps and slide, and to snacks. A concession stand was also available with french fries and hot dogs for $1 each.

Covan expected about 400 people to show up, and the number of guests was well on the way to approaching her estimate.

Children were lined up at all the games, but the lines were longest to take a turn to jump in the inflatable jumps.

Kelly Feutz was attending the event for the first time with her daughter, who is in kindergarten. Mom said the event was good for socializing — and not only for the children. “It’s such a tight-knit school, so a lot of the parents know each other, so it’s good for them too,” Feutz said.

Second-year attendee Christina Stellers was waiting in line with her two sons for face painting. Wyatt Stellers, 8, said he likes not only all the games and food, but the prizes, which were available to all participants — win or lose.

“It’s a nice social event. They get to see all their friends before the end of the year,” Mrs. Stellers said.
