Scholarships, grants awarded


COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana Community Foundation recently announced its largest quarterly distribution of foundation scholarships and grants to date.

Scholarship committee members presented scholarships totaling $12,550 to the following graduating students:

U Community Foundation Scholarship, J. D. Beck.

U Columbiana Foundation Education Scholarships, Lauren Caraotta and Katie Ball.

U Columbiana Alumni and Friends Scholarships, Katie Ball, Danielle Ellis and Alyssa Wise.

U Dr. Chester W. DeWalt Athletic Scholarship, Cory Guy.

U John J. Hill Scholarship, Kelly Kimpel.

U Barton-Kissel Scholarship, Katie Ball.

U Gamma Eta Sorority Scholarships, Melanie Barzda, Michaela Pease and Alyssa Wise.

U Lucille Funkhouser Mundy Music Award, Lisa Curll.

Columbiana Foundation Education Scholarship recipients (Crestview schools) are Sierra Guterba and Jennifer McElroy; Crestview Local School District Scholarships, Anthony Amabile, Kasey Baker, Lisa Braden, Cory Muraco, Brianne Paulmier, Aaron Scheel and Julie Symmons.

Grants awarded

The foundation also approved grants totaling $26,500 to five local projects: Historical Society of Columbiana-Fairfield Township, to straighten and level unstable monuments at the Columbiana Cemetery; Clipper Diamond Club, grant for a high-fenced bullpen with two clay mounds at the Firestone Park baseball field; Crestview Soccer Club, help in building two new soccer fields adjacent to the high school; Upper Room Fellowship, to purchase games and equipment for its annual Community Family Fun Day; Columbiana Chamber of Commerce, to assist with landscaping and the beautification project of the village square.
