Saturday, May 26, 2007

Rachael Smith, principal at West Elementary in Youngstown, pulls ahead of D.C. Colvin, a family readiness volunteer at the school. West’s pupils were challenged to read 600 books for the national Right to Read Week. If they did, school leaders agreed to the race, which was Friday. Pupils read more than 2,000 books, according to literacy teacher Carrie Boyer.
