Canfield, Ursuline baseball teams headed to state

Friday, May 25, 2007

The Canfield High baseball team is headed to the state tournament, and the Cardinals got there in a strange way. The Cardinals were tied 4-4 with Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin in their Division II regional final at Hudson High School when ND-CL was caught using a pitcher who wasn't on the official lineup card. By rule, Canfield was declared the winner by forfeit.

The Ursuline High baseball team advanced to the Division III state semifinals more conventionally, defeating LaGrange Keystone, 7-2, Friday. Ursuline will play in Columbus for the second straight year. Last spring the Irish lost 2-1 to Marion Pleasant in the state title game.
