YOUNGSTOWN — A Social Security Administration claims representative is charged with theft of public money. The charge against Juliene A. White was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division. A grand jury charged that the theft took place between Sept. 19 and Dec. 29, 2005.

The grand jury charged that White submitted false vouchers to the Social Security Administration, seeking reimbursement for expenses for her minor son when he did not live with her. White received $5,305 in reimbursement that she wasn’t entitled to, the grand jury charged.

Lawyer faces tax charge

NILES — A lawyer is charged with failing to file income tax returns from 2001 through 2004. The charge was filed Thursday against John H. Large in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division. The U.S. attorney alleges Large did not file a tax return on $107,361 in 2001; $181,924 in 2002; $109,299 in 2003; and $27,061 in 2004.

Liberty fire

LIBERTY — A fire did $75,000 in damage to a home at 2945 Roosevelt Drive, the fire department reports. No one was in the house when the fire broke out at 11:30 a.m., the department said. The cause is believed to be an electrical short, and there were no injuries.

Unexploded military shell

YOUNGSTOWN — Police and the Youngstown Bomb Squad were called to St. Patrick Church on Oak Hill Avenue Thursday after a worker found an old, unexploded military shell.

The worker told police he found it in a collapsed garage on property on Cleveland Street. The church had acquired the abandoned property, the police report said.

When he found the shell, he threw it into a wheelbarrow and brought it to the church, the report said. The pastor called police, who notified the bomb squad to come and take it away.
