Holiday travel: Gas pains galore

It’s a holiday weekend. The weather forecast is “unsettled.” More patrol is on the roadways. People are either traveling because of obligation or canceled their trips altogether because of the rise in gas prices.   Construction may slow a few drivers down.

Marie Francisco, from Salem, said she is leaving today to Fremont, Ohio for a graduation party.

WFMJ’s Chief Meteorologist Mark Koontz expects scattered showers and possibly thunderstorms today.   She said she has to go but normally wouldn’t travel far with the gas prices as high as they are.

Marcus Suffolk, from Canfield, said he is finding ways to save money on gas.   Friday he carpooled to Hudson, Ohio because it’s about an hour drive.

“The gas prices are really putting a damper in my wallet,” he said.

Others are fed up with the gas prices entirely and are not going anywhere this weekend.

Tim Fox, from Boardman said he can’t afford to go to the lake like he has in the past because of the gas prices.   He said he drives a 1,000 miles a week for his job and spends enough money on gas. “I am not going anywhere,” he said.
