Worker finds old mortar round

YOUNGSTOWN — Police and the Youngstown Bomb Squad were called to St. Patrick’s church on Oak Hill Avenue Thursday after a worker found an old, unexploded military shell.

The worker told police he found it in a collapsed garage on property on Cleveland Street. The church had acquired the abandoned property, the police report said.

When he found the shell, he threw it in a wheelbarrow and brought it to the church, the report said. The pastor called police, who notified the bomb squad to come and take it away.
