Silver Stars 74, Sun 71

SAN ANTONIO — Becky Hammon scored 17 points and the San Antonio Silver Stars held off Connecticut after blowing most of a 25-point lead.

Hammon, acquired from New York in a draft-day trade, made two free throws with 5.8 seconds left and finished 9-of-10 from the line.

Shanna Crossley had 16 points — all in the second quarter — for the Silver Stars (1-1). Katie Douglas led the Sun (1-1) with 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and Asjha Jones added 20 points.

Down by 25 with 6:11 to go in the third quarter, the Sun rallied it cut it to 72-71 on Jamie Carey’s 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds left.
