Warren JFK boys, Ridge girls win Div. III district titles


The top four boys and girls in each event qualified for the regional.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Jared Province took first place in the 100 (11.51 seconds) and the 200 (22.8), leading the Warren JFK high boys to the Division III district track and field championship Friday at Springfield High Stadium.

The Eagles scored 100 points. McDonald was second with 81 and South Range third with 69.

The top four boys and girls in each event qualified for the regional meet at Ravenna next week.

Daniel Hull of JFK set a record in winning the 400 (49.76). Andy Morgan of Maplewood set a record in placing first in the 1600 (4:23.5). Andy Arnio of Maplewood set a record in the 3200 (9:29.42).

Andy Arnio of Maplewood took first place in the 3200 (9:29.42) and Jakob Leon of Columbiana set a record in winning the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches).

Seven records were set among girls, including two by Maplewood’s Rochelle Rupe in the 1600 (5:17.63) and 3200 (11:25.73).

Another pair of record-setting performances came from Ursuline’s 4x100 (50.66) and 4x200 (1:45.99) relays.

Another record-setter was Mineral Ridge double winner Nicole Honsaker. The junior set a record in the 200 (26.27) and won the 400 in (1:00.85). She was also second in the 100 12.83.

Ridge girls win

Mineral Ridge won the team title with 961⁄2 points. Ursuline was second with 73 and McDonald third with 681⁄2.

Ursuline’s Jasime Brown won the 100 in a record 12.77 and she was also second in the 200 (26.41). Warren JFK’s Audrey Maheu also had a record by winning the 800 (2:15.17).

Another double winner was Lowellville’s Rachel Mariotti in the 100 hurdles (15.57) and 300 hurdles (46.42).

Warren JFK won the 4x400 in a record time (4:03.87), while McDonald’s Emily Dolsak won the discus with a throw of 118-1.

Kayla Ellks (Lordstown) won the long jump (16-23⁄4) and was also second in the 100 hurdles (16.34).

Freshman Monica Ciarniello (Springfield) was runner-up in both the 1600 (5:18.50) and 3200 (11:30.28).

Another double runner-up was Lowellville ‘s 4x200 (1:49.22) and 4x400 (4:11.69).
