Elm Street entrance to close Monday

YOUNGSTOWN — Construction will begin Monday on improvements to the Elm Street entrance to Youngstown State University, the next phase of the university’s Campus Gateway project.

Elm Street, from the Madison Avenue Expressway service road, will be closed to local traffic through Aug. 24. Deliveries only will be allowed to Kilcawley Center and the bookstore during construction.

The F6 parking lot between the tennis courts and Fedor Hall will have limited access, but the F5 parking lot between Fedor Hall and Beeghly Center will be closed for the duration of the project.

For access to the F6 lot, Rich Center for Autism, Youngstown Early College and Wee Care Day Care, motorists should use Stadium Drive, which runs behind Beeghly Center.

The construction, which includes improving the street, removing utility poles and installing new lighting, is part of the $1.6 million Campus Gateways project, which also includes major improvements now under way at the University Plaza entrance to the campus.

The project is funded with money from the state capital budget, which is one-time money that is restricted for use on capital improvement projects and cannot be used to fund operational expenses.
