Winning piano students to participate in awards concert


YOUNGSTOWN — Bliss Hall at Youngstown State University was the setting May 13 for the YSU-Youngstown Music Teacher Association Masters Piano Competition.

Participating in the event were 27 entrants who competed at various levels. There were 15 winners, each of whom will receive a $50 bond and will perform their winning selections at an awards recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Performing will be the following winners:

• Pre-A (kindergarten through third grade) — Robert Herhold, a son of William and Rosemary Herhold of Cortland.

• A (fourth through sixth grades) — Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen, daughter of Melanie Olsen and Thomas Kirkham of Boardman; Tommy Kuhns, son of John and Gretchen Kuhns of Canfield; Alyssa Titi, daughter of Robert and Roseann Titi of Canfield; and Hayley Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward of Canfield.

• B (seventh through ninth grades) — Alison (Qizhou) Ge, daughter of Weiqing Ge and Shelley Xiaoli of Boardman; Jacob Madison, son of Dr. and Mrs. John Madison of Boardman; and Kristi Yazvac, daughter of Tom and Diane Yazvac of Boardman.

• C (10th through 12th grades) — Sam Borzi, son of James and Mary Ann Borzi of Boardman, and Jessica Shearer, daughter of Reggie and Lee Ann Shearer of Wampum, Pa.

• Duet Division — Jessica and Bethany Shearer, daughters of Reggie and Lee Ann Shearer, and Kristi and Randi Yazvac, children of Tom and Diane Yazvac.

• Concerto Division — Sam Brozi.

Teachers represented by the students are Joan Cosgrove, Fanny DiDomenico, Cynthia Evans, Audrey Rhinehart and Diane Yazvac.

Professor Tedrow Perkins was chairman of the event, and Evans is YMTA president.
