MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees approved one of three proposed zoning commission regulation changes Wednesday and asked the commission for more answers on the other two.
Trustees approved new mobile home park restrictions involving parking or storing trailers, travel trailers, recreational vehicles, trucks, campers, boats, buses or motor coaches. They can be parked or stored in any agricultural or residential area.
The mobile homes, however, can be lived in only as temporary quarters to safeguard a premises while reconstruction of a residence occurs after a natural disaster or fire.
A 90-day temporary zoning permit is required for this use, and the vehicles must be stored in the driveway, the rear or side yard and no closer than 10 feet to the edge of the road and must comply with setback and side-yard restrictions.
The parked location must not create any type of vision obstruction.
Temporary accessory sign regulations and new planned unit development restrictions are going back to the zoning commission with questions from trustees.
Other action
In other matters, trustees presented a proclamation honoring Fire Chief Randy Pugh for 30 years of service to the department effective May 28. Trustees noted that Pugh has been chief since 1988 and that there is a family dedication to the department; his father, David Pugh, was a captain to the department in 1960.
Trustees also hired Chris Hodge as a full-time member of the Weathersfield Police Department effective April 30. He is a 2000 graduate of Youngstown State University. A Warren resident, he will earn an hourly rate of $16.73 an hour.
Pugh warned residents that open burning is under the regulation of the state Environmental Protection Agency. If the fire department receives a 911 call about open burning it will issue a verbal warning, on the second call a written warning, and on the third call a court summons.
The only open burning permitted is a campfire that is about 6 to 8 feet in diameter, fires to cook over and fire to clear a lot.
