Friday, May 18, 2007

OBERLIN — Boardman High will be represented by three players at the state tennis tournament next weekend. All of them may be going as district champions.

Singles player Scott Warden won two matches Thursday in the opening day of the Division I district tournament at Oberlin College, as did Spartans doubles partners and brothers Bryant and Robert Salcedo.

They will return to the courts Saturday at 9 a.m. in semifinal-round matches, and are two wins away from being district champions.

Warden, the Canton sectional champion, defeated Adam Wolf of Lyndhurst Brush, 6-1, 6-0, and Ethan Dunbar of Lodi Cloverleaf, 6-3, 6-2. Saturday, he is scheduled to face Jeremy Polster of Shaker Heights, another sectional champion, in the semifinals.

The other semifinal match will pit Brad Noel of Westlake against Dylan Schrode of Solon.

The Salcedos lost only four games all day. They knocked out Scott Stuckey and Robert Clayton of Avon Lake, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round, then shut out Solon’s Chase Thomas and Scott Singerman, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.

The Salcedos will face Paul Boslet and Zach Perry of Hudson in Saturday’s semifinals. The other semifinal will match another Hudson duo, Alex Hughes and Matt McErlean, against Matt Lachman and Manoj Parimi of Lakewood St. Edward.

Saturday’s matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
