Fake $14,523 check given to bank

BOARDMAN — A counterfeit check for $14,523 was presented to the Cortland Banks branch on South Avenue   Thursday afternoon. A man requested a split-deposit, receiving $4,000 in cash and the remaining amount was deposited, the police report states. The check, which was a certified bank check from Norstar Commercial Bank, was identified as counterfeit when Norstar was contacted to verify account information. The bank does not exist, police were told.
