WARREN — Parents of a 10-year-old girl accused of faking her abduction were arraigned Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on two felonies and a misdemeanor charge. John R. Brown, 53, and Lora L. Maravia, 34, both of Hadley Avenue, Liberty, pleaded innocent and were released from Trumbull County Jail on Wednesday after posting bond of $25,000, set by Judge John M. Stuard. They were indicted by a county grand jury on charges of inducing panic and tampering with evidence, which are felonies, and child endangering, a misdemeanor. Liberty police said Brown reported the girl missing, which began a four-hour search by Liberty and Youngstown police. The girl was found inside McDonald’s on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown later that day.

Last Stand sold out

YOUNGSTOWN — Reservations are no longer being accepted for the Wilson’s Last Stand dinner/dance next Friday at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. The event marks the end of Woodrow Wilson High School, which is being demolished. Organizers said 1,100 reservations have been accepted and there are several hundred more on the waiting list for the event. Anyone can still tour the high school from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26.

Boil-water order ends

AUSTINTOWN — Residents who were affected by a water shutdown on Red Apple Drive, North Canfield-Niles Road and Ohltown Road on Tuesday can drink and cook with their water without boiling it. The Youngstown Water Department said the water is safe. The water was turned off because of a road project on state Route 46.

Teen faces drug charge

YOUNGSTOWN — A 17-year-old boy found with 28 packaged-for-sale bags of suspected marijuana in a book bag was arrested at Lincoln Place, a residential detention center for juveniles on East Indianola Avenue. The boy was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center on Wednesday to face a charge of aggravated marijuana trafficking.

Theft at Gibson Park

YOUNGSTOWN — Gang graffiti was found after $200 worth of soda and $100 worth of baseball equipment were stolen from a storage facility at Gibson Park, 1461 Gibson St., police said. A storage door had been pried open before 4 p.m. Wednesday, when the break-in was discovered. Graffiti on the equipment table and outside wall included “RMR,” “keep it gangsta” and “bad boyz.”

OVI sobriety checkpoint

A sobriety checkpoint will be in Mahoning County from 10 p.m. today until 2 a.m. Saturday. Another sobriety checkpoint will be held next week from 9 p.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday. Members of the Mahoning County Operating Vehicle Impaired Task Force will target impaired drivers and those not wearing safety belts.

Pet adoption fair

The HSCC says cat overpopulation has reached crisis levels in our area with the onset of kitten season.
