Brinker allows 1-hit in Girard’s 5-0 win
STRUTHERS — Marty Brinker tossed a one-hit shutout, lifting Girard High to a 5-0 victory over Rootstown in a Division III district semifinal baseball game Thursday at Cene Park.
Girard (17-6) will play Ursuline today at 5 p.m. on Field 2 at Cene Park for the district championship.
Brinker had three strikouts and walked four in the win. The only hit for the Rovers (19-11) was a fifth-inning single by Steve Marshall.
The Indians managed just seven hits off Rootstown pitcher Chad Luckie, who had 13 strikeouts. But four errors hurt the Rovers.
Larry Goist, Dave Sherock and Matt Houser had run-scoring singles for Girard.
