Volney building will go; but memories will linger

YOUNGSTOWN — Michelle Benedict, Christina Pallo and Christine Restle were known as “The Voices of Volney” when they attended Volney Rogers Junior High School.

That was in 1985 to 1987 when they attended the school on the city’s West Side and made the morning announcement.

The three women, who remain the best of friends, met again today at the school to walk the halls of the building that will be demolished at the end of the school year so a new building can be constructed to carry on the Volney Rogers name.

Benedict, Pallo and Restle joined many former students, parents and staff for a final time at the school, which opened its doors in 1963.
