City council
Highlights of Wednesday's council meeting:
Mayor Ralph A. Infante announced he has received official notice of a 372,000 Ohio Public Works Commission grant to construct storm sewers on Potomac Avenue and Mistletoe Road. Mark Hess, special projects coordinator, said the city share of the 475,000 project is about 103,000. Work will begin in September and take 90 days to complete. The streets experience flooding and don't have storm sewers.
Advanced to a second of three readings legislation to create a land bank. The city plans to gain ownership of property where houses have been demolished so it can be sold to neighbors at a low cost to make room for additions or gardens.
Infante called for a round-table discuss with city council for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the city conference room to discuss light and water meter replacements and computer upgrades. He said light meters have never been replaced and water meters are 20 years old.
Fire Chief Gary Brown said his department will begin fire-hydrant inspections in June to make sure they function. Inspections will be on ward-by-ward basis. The hydrants haven't been inspected in years, he explained.
