Man charged in robbery of local discount store

The accused robber was released from prison in September.
BOARDMAN -- An East Indianola Avenue man accused of violating parole for a Franklin County robbery charge has been arrested again, charged with this week's robbery of a South Avenue discount store.
Anthony Barnes, also known as Robert Perry, 36, was arrested Tuesday by members of the U.S. Marshal's Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force after an investigation by township police.
Barnes is accused of entering the Family Dollar about 12:30 p.m. Monday, selecting car wax and candy and approaching the register.
He told an employee to give him money from the register, saying that he had a gun.
After an employee gave him the money, Barnes reportedly left the store and got into a car that had been reported stolen out of Youngstown.
Township police found the car in the parking lot of an East Midlothian Boulevard apartment complex.
Township Detective Glenn Patton said that the Youngstown stolen vehicle report listed Robert Perry as a suspect.
Perry had been charged with a traffic violation earlier this year.
Made a comparison
The Mahoning County sheriff's office provided a mug shot, which was cross-referenced with Barnes' information.
"We discovered that Anthony Barnes and Robert Perry are actually the same person," the detective said.
Barnes also had a warrant from the Adult Parole Authority for violating his parole.
He was convicted of robbery in 2004 in Franklin County and released from prison in September, state records show.
Witnesses from the Family Dollar robbery and the Youngstown car theft identified Barnes from a photographic lineup, Patton said.
Barnes was charged with aggravated robbery and receiving stolen property.
Patton said the arrest and investigation were a cooperative effort among the township department's Northern Boardman Patrol unit, Youngstown police and the marshal's task force.
Barnes remains at the Mahoning County Justice Center and is scheduled to appear today in court.
