Valley police chiefs dole out awards

YOUNGSTOWN — An Ohio State Highway Patrol captain who used his fist to smash a car window and aid a trapped motorist has been recognized by his peers.

The Mahoning Valley Chiefs of Police Association had its annual awards luncheon today at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center. In all, 11 awards were given that ranged from valor to community policing. Roughly 60 men and women attended the event.

Springfield Police Chief Matthew Mohn presented the awards after giving a brief synopsis of what each recipient did to earn recognition.

Mohn said Capt. James J. Holt, OSHP Warren District 4 commander, received the valor award for quick thinking and life-saving assistance.
