Milton Township cleanup is set for Saturday

LAKE MILTON -- Starting this weekend, Lake Milton and surrounding areas will be a bit cleaner.
Milton Township Trustee Harold Moore announced at Tuesday's trustees meeting the annual Milton Community Litter Cleanup effort will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday starting at the Lake Milton State Park maintenance building on Mahoning Avenue.
Participants will be given bags to remove litter in sections of the township as well as Craig Beach, Moore noted.
Also part of the event will be a recycling program at the maintenance facility. People can bring scrap tires from their vehicles to be recycled for 1 each, which also includes rims, Moore added.

Also at the session, officials passed a resolution to hire Bill Sosnosky as a special police officer, effective immediately. Sosnosky, who has previous law enforcement experience, will assist with administrative duties and perform oil changes, brake work and other minor repairs on the township's three cruisers, said Leni Schulz, fiscal officer.
The township will buy parts but Sosnosky will provide free labor, Schulz noted, adding that he will receive no pay for his duties.
In other action, Julie Meehan, assistant zoning inspector, announced new office hours for the zoning department. Hours will be from 8 to 10 a.m. and 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturdays by appointment.
