Spartans tennisteam advances
*BOARDMAN -- The No. 1 doubles team of Brad Franczkowski and Shawn O'Neil clinched a state team win for Boardman.
The 6-0, 6-0 win over North Canton by Franczkowski and O'Neil helped the Spartans to a 3-2 win.
In singles matches, Bryant Salcedo was a 6-0, 6-1 winner, while Scott Warden prevailed 6-1, 6-0.
Boardman advanced to the final of the NEO state team competition. The winner will qualify for the state team tournament in Columbus.

*HANOVERTON -- Kelsey Ford's three hits included a home run and double as Boardman beat United, 5-3.
Ford drove in two runs and was the winning pitcher in relief of Shannon Morrow.
Lizzie Padgitt hit two doubles for the Spartans (10-13) and Megan Ramsey had three hits and scored a run.
For United (16-8), Brooke McCartney's two hits included a double, and Erin Briceland tripled.
*McDONALD -- Ursuline (18-6) scored five runs in the fifth inning and four in sixth in a 12-1 win over McDonald.
Casey Lower scattered five hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Angelina Joseph hit three singles, scored twice and drove in two runs. Natalie Palermo hit a two-run homer. Kelly Rupushin hit three singles and her sister Kaitlyn two for the Blue Devils.
*CANFIELD -- Canfield (22-1, 14-0) pounded out 18 hits, including 10 doubles, in a 16-0 victory over Metro Athletic Conference rival Campbell.
Melissa West hit a two-run homer and single, while winning pitcher Lauren Sulick hit two doubles.
*AUSTINTOWN -- Hoover scored five runs in the first inning to defeat Fitch 10-0 in a Federal League game. The Falcons (7-15, 2-7) were held to two hits, one of them a double by Kate Ferree.
*MANTUA -- Alyssa Biltz hit a home run and single for Southeast (18-8) in a 7-1 win over Crestwood. Winning pitcher Shannon Hamilton (12-4) also homered and Megan Wain added two singles for the Pirates.
*WELLSVILLE -- Winning pitcher Brittany Boyer (8-4) had five hits to drive in six runs as Western Reserve defeated Wellsville, 23-0.
Macy Marra had three hits and two RBIs while Ellie Sanders and Mellisa Burkey each drove in three runs for the Blue Devils (17-9, 12-2 Inter Tri-County League).

*NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Jeremy Savaet (6-1) scattered four hits to lead Springfield to a 3-0 victory over Mineral Ridge.
The Tigers (20-6, 12-2) won the Inter Tri-County League championship.
Bryan Visingardi hit a double for Springfield.
*CORTLAND -- Lakeview scored three runs in the fifth inning and two in the seventh as it posted a 7-4 victory over Hubbard.
The Bulldogs (15-10, 10-2) clinched at least a tie for first place in the Trumbull Athletic Conference and will play host to LaBrae today at 4:30 p.m.
Justin Williams worked six innings, scattering five hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Dave DeJacimo hit a three-run homer and he also singled. Kevin Monti hit a pair of singles.
John Madeline hit a triple and double and scored twice for the Eagles.
*MANTUA -- Crestwood built a 5-0 lead and went on to an 8-3 win over Southeast.
Bobby Butvin hit a triple and two singles to pace Crestwood. Greg Lemley hit a double and single for the Pirates (6-19).
SRU baseballreceives berth
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock's baseball team earned a berth in the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional tournament at Kutztown University.
Slippery Rock (33-15), the fourth seed, will play No. 3 California (Pa.) (36-15) Thursday at 4 p.m. in an opening round game.
Also in the tournament is No. 1 seed Kutztown (45-5), No. 2 West Virginia State (36-15) No. 5 West Chester (30-15) and No. 6 Shippensburg (27-22).
Kids Golf setsOhio qualifiers
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Three courses in Ohio will hold qualifiers for the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship.
