Shredding service
GREEN -- Green Township trustees, working with Cintas Document Management of North Jackson, are making available an industrial shredder. This service will be available, free of charge, to shred documents. Only 10,000 pounds of shredded paper can be accepted, so a maximum of 300 pounds is set per drop. The shredder will be at the Green Township Recycling Center, 12184 Lisbon Road, behind the fire station, from 9 a.m. to noon June 30. Staples, paper clips and rubber bands do not have to be removed before shredding. This service is provided in conjunction with the Mahoning County Reuse & amp; Recycling Division (The Green Team). Hospital program
FARRELL, Pa. -- UPMC Horizon, in conjunction with Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, will host a woman and children's health care event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the lobby of its Shenango Valley campus, located at 2200 Memorial Drive, Farrell. Among the displays will be information about prenatal testing and environmental risks to pregnant women and infants, breast feeding guidance, information about the state-sponsored nutrition program for pregnant women and infants, information on smoking cessation and advice on postpartum exercise and nutrition. Visitors will have a chance to meet hospital specialists and tour the newly remodeled birthing area. There will be refreshments and free give away items. For more details, call (724) 347-7700.
Nature walk planned
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will sponsor a "Nature Walk: Wild Edibles" from 10 a.m. to noon June 9 on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center. Patty McHenry will identify plants found in your own backyard. Recipes will be provided following the hike, along with a beverage and wild snack. She is the volunteer naturalist coordinator for Ohio State University in Mahoning County. The cost is 10. Festival of the Arts
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Summer Festival of the Arts, planned July 7 and 8 by Youngstown State University, needs volunteers for artist registration, information booths, the children's art tent, technical assistance at performance sites and at the Festival of Nations international area. Various shifts are available for the two-day event. Each volunteer receives a festival T-shirt, water and reserved free parking. Lori A. Factor is festival coordinator. Man arrested after fight
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested Tomie Thomas, 46, of the 100 block of West Dewey Avenue after being called to a fight at 1:40 a.m. Sunday in that area. A check revealed that Thomas had a warrant from Youngstown Municipal Court on drug paraphernalia. He was taken to Mahoning County jail.
