Guilty on five charges, innocent of attempted murder

WARREN — A 27-year-old city man was convicted of five charges for a Jan. 9 shooting at Stone Gate apartments and a Feb. 19 fight with a girlfriend.

A jury found Dwayne A. Stoutamire, 27, of Union Street Southwest, guilty of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, abduction, and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Those charges and additional time for using a firearm in commission of his crimes could land him in prison for as much as 42 years, said Chris Becker, the assistant county prosecutor who handled the case.

Stoutamire will be sentenced later by Judge W. Wyatt McKay, who revoked Stoutamire’s $150,000 bond.

The jury found Stoutamire innocent of attempted murder.

Four of the five charges are related to the assault on Antonio Peterman, 22, of Laird Avenue Southeast, who police say was shot in the chest and leg. Police said Stoutamire shot Peterman around midnight at the Robert Avenue Northwest apartment complex. Peterman remains in a coma in a nursing home. The abduction conviction stems from Stoutamire pointing a gun at a girlfriend, Jessica Gordon, in the 1100 block of Palmyra Road and forcing her into a vehicle. Gordon testified during Stoutamire’s trial.
