Ellwood City driver dies
BEAVER, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police, Beaver, said that Jennifer DeLuca, 26, Wood Street, Ellwood City, Pa., died in a car accident Sunday along Cosgrove Road, New Beaver borough in Lawrence County, after she was ejected from the vehicle she was driving. Time of the accident was undetermined. State police said the DeLuca vehicle was traveling west on Cosgrove Road when it went off the road onto the south berm. The vehicle re-entered the road, slid sideways then left the road again, turned over and traveled over an embankment.
Home hit by bullets
YOUNGSTOWN -- A resident in the 100 block of East Lucius Avenue reported to police that gunshots were heard in the neighborhood just after the resident observed a group of some 20 juveniles wandering in the area. Police, who responded at 12:51 a.m. Saturday, found that the roof of the porch of the resident's house had been grazed by a bullet. A.38-caliber bullet was found embedded in a window frame. Another bullet, which is believed to have gone through a window, was found inside the house. On a previous call in the same area, police had found a Smith and Wesson .38-caliber inside a car.
Boardman man arrested
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brandon L. Brown, 23, of the 7000 block of Amherst Ave., Boardman, was arrested and taken to Mahoning County Jail about 1:50 a.m. Sunday after a traffic stop for loud music revealed that he had 21 open suspensions. Police on routine patrol near Mahoning and Glacier avenues heard loud music approaching; the traffic stop took place at Steel and Third streets. Police also found Brown had two active warrants charging him with fleeing and eluding and driving under suspension.
Planting day set June 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- The organization aimed at revitalizing downtown Youngstown through beautification is hosting its annual planting day June 2. Streetscape's "Ten Years and Growing" will mark the organization's 10th anniversary. Volunteers will begin removing debris, mulching and planting flowers and shrubs at 8 a.m. Crews will focus on the West Federal Street median, John Young Memorial, city hall and the corner of Front Street and South Avenue. The cleanup effort will terminate at noon. More than a half-dozen other civic groups and businesses have committed to cleaning other areas of the city in conjunction with Streetscape. Registration will take place on the ground floor of 20 Federal Plaza. In case of rain, activities will be rescheduled for June 3 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Memorial Day Parade
BOARDMAN -- The township's Memorial Day Parade is May 28, and it's not too late for township groups and organizations to participate. Applicants will be accepted up to the last minute. There is no entry fee. Participants should arrive in the Center Middle School parking lot by 9:30 a.m. If driving a vehicle during the parade, enter the lot from Stadium Drive. Motorcycle crashes
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County 911 Center said there was a motorcycle accident at 3 p.m. Sunday on Conneaut Lake Road. No further information was available.
