Rabbi anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 25th anniversary of the ordination of Rabbi Joseph P. Schonberger of Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, is planned April 13. A shabbat service and dinner will be at 5:45 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Jim Haddix of Maine. A celebratory shabbat service will be at 9:30 a.m. April 14 with a kiddush luncheon and dessert reception after. Reservations are due by Friday.
Celebration in song
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Palm Sunday will be celebrated through song by Westminster College at 7 p.m. Sunday with music at Wallace Memorial Chapel. The 30-minute event, titled "Song of Wisdom, from Old Turtle," is based on the award-winning children's book "Old Turtle," written by Douglas Wood. It will be directed by Dr. Robin Lind, director of choral activities.
Informational summit
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Everlife Worship Center, 474 Early Road, will host an informational summit for political awareness in the Christian community from 1 to 3 p.m. April 7. The summit will feature guest speaker Myke Clarett, former regional liaison for the Ohio Secretary of State's office, whose territory included Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Ashtabula and Carroll counties.
Guild plans meeting
POLAND -- The quarterly executive meeting of the Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will be at 11 a.m. April 11 at Holy Family Church rectory, 2729 Center Road. The monthly Mass will be at 10 a.m. April 18 in Sacred Heart Church, 400 Lincoln Park Drive, Youngstown. The rosary will be recited at 9:20 a.m.
Conference set
WARREN -- Higher Praise Covenant Church, 857 N. Park Ave., will host a church and community conference, "Warring for Destiny," April 13-15. The conference will be led by Apostle Les Bowling at 7:30 p.m. April 13; Pastor Libby Fannin at 7:30 p.m. April 14; and Pastor Tracy Fannin at 11 a.m. April 15. A leadership forum, "The Eagle's Nest," is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. April 14.
Concert at church
WARREN -- Young Harmony, a Southern gospel singing group from Chattanooga, Tenn., will perform at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at First Church of God, 1951 Parkman Road N.W. An offering will be taken.
Easter cantata
CHAMPION -- The Grace Baptist Church choir will present an Easter cantata, "The Sacrifice," at 6 p.m. Palm Sunday at Grace Baptist Church, 5418 Mahoning Ave., N.W.
Passion mime program
NEWTON FALLS -- Eighth-graders of Sts. Mary and Joseph School will present a Passion mime at 7 p.m. Sunday at Braceville United Methodist Church, 577 Park Road S.W. An offering will be taken. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
'Beyond the Cross'
YOUNGSTOWN -- The choir of Lockwood United Methodist Church, 4570 Lockwood Blvd., will present an Easter cantata, "Beyond the Cross," at 11 a.m. Palm Sunday.
Living Last Supper
EAST PALESTINE -- A living Last Supper will be presented at 8 p.m. Maundy Thursday at First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St., with Centenary and Emmanuel United Methodist churches.
Parish mission
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Peter John Cameron, editor of Magnificat, will be the guest speaker at a Holy Week parish mission at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at St. Dominic's Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave. The topics will be Monday, "Why was this oil not sold?," The Attraction to Christ; Tuesday, "Why can I not follow you now?" The Dilemma of Sin; and Wednesday, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" The Core of Betrayal.
Passion Week program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Cornersburg Baptist Church, 3898 Tippecanoe Road, will offer a presentation of the events leading up to Christ's Crucifixion at 11 a.m. Palm Sunday. Dr. Allan Mosher will speak.
Church production
YOUNGSTOWN -- Highway Tabernacle Church, 3000 S. Raccoon Road, will present "The Passion of the Promised" at 7 p.m. Palm Sunday, 3 and 7 p.m. Good Friday, 7 p.m. Holy Saturday and 7 p.m. Easter Sunday. Admission is free.
Banquet planned
HUBBARD -- Jesus is the Way World Outreach Ministries, 319 Goldie Road, Youngstown, will sponsor a Christian family fellowship banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Brentford House, 737 Myron St. Evangelist Don Lytle of West Virginia will speak. Reservations must be made by Wednesday by calling (330) 759-2950. The cost is 10 for those 13 and older and 6 for children age 5 to 12.
