What happens when you lose your $27-an-hour job?

For some Delphi Packard Electric workers, leaving their job late last year created an opportunity.

Bob Johnson, 51, of Hermitage, Pa., used part of his $140,000 buyout to start a franchise car repair business.

John “Skip” Hall, 54, of Austintown is building his hobby — video production — into a full-time business. He’s receiving a supplemental pension and health-care benefits to carry him while he builds his business.

Karole Kowalski, 41, of Warren, is going back to school for an associate’s degree in finance. She wants to be a financial adviser.
