Despite shooting, mail delivery continues in Canton area
CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Residents of a neighborhood where a postal worker was killed by a stray bullet successfully fought the U.S. Postal Service’s plan to replace home delivery with clusters of mailboxes outside homes.
“We got the message,” postal service spokesman Victor Durbina told about 300 people at a town hall gathering Thursday night.
The postal service has been concerned about the safety of its workers since the shooting of 26-year-old mail carrier Jennifer Milburn, who had been on the job about three weeks when she was killed in October.
