Route 170 widening planned in Calcutta


CALCUTTA — Ohio Department of Transportation will begin work April 9 to reconstruct and widen state Route 170 here.

To alleviate increased congestion, about 1.5 miles of Route 170 will be widened to five lanes from just west of county Road 447 to just south of county Road 430. Work also includes widening on county Road 447, the realignment of Huston Road and Sprucevale Avenue, installation of new curbs and gutters, construction of a new storm sewer system, and improvements to substandard horizontal curves.

Dick Bible, ODOT District 11 deputy director, said that to minimize traffic delays caused by this work, all construction will take place between     7 p.m. and 7 a.m.. Traffic will be maintained throughout construction.

The work will cost $7.35 million and is to be completed by June 30, 2008. Kirila Contractors Inc., Brookfield, is handling the job.
