Boardman requires permits for cooking fires

BOARDMAN -- Just because the weather is getting warmer and people will be spending more time outside doesn't mean burning regulations don't apply, township fire prevention officials say.
The Boardman Fire Prevention Bureau reminds residents that in order to have cooking and ceremonial fires, a permit must be obtained.
Permits can be acquired at the bureau at 126 Boardman-Poland Road, across from the Southern Park Mall from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are free and are valid for 30 days.
With or without a permit, it is unlawful to burn trash, grass, leaves or any synthetic material. Only seasoned, dry firewood can be used, and fires must be attended to at all times.
In addition, the bureau noted extinguishing equipment must be available when a fire is lighted, the size of the fire must be limited to 3 feet by 3 feet, and the fire must be 50 feet from any building.
For any questions or further information, call the bureau at (330) 729-9535.
