More taxpayers are usinge-file this year, IRS says
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Internal Revenue Service announced that taxpayers are continuing to electronically file their tax returns at a record pace.
"We encourage people to consider e-file and Free File as the tax deadline approaches. E-file reduces taxpayer errors and gets refunds back quickly," said IRS Commissioner Mark W. Everson.
So far this tax filing season, 73 percent of all returns have been e-filed, compared with 70 percent for the same period last year.
AT & amp;T to award grantsfor tech-based programs
COLUMBUS -- The AT & amp;T Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AT & amp;T Inc., launched the 2007 AT & amp;T Excelerator competitive technology grant program. In its sixth year, AT & amp;T Excelerator will provide 9 million to regional and local nonprofit organizations in Ohio and 21 other states for projects that use technology to build stronger communities. The AT & amp;T Excelerator program has awarded more than 2,500 technology grants, totaling more than 47.8 million, to a diverse range of nonprofits. These grants help organizations meet their overall goals by improving technology resources, including hardware, software and networking tools.
The 2007 program will award individual grants that range from 2,500 to 25,000 and that are one year in length. Collaborations by two or more organizations will be considered for grants of up to 50,000 for one year.
