300 attend funeral for Fowler soldier
WARREN — About 300 people attended the funeral today of Army Sgt. Robert Michael Carr of Fowler, who was killed March 13 in Iraq.
The funeral took place at Believers Christian Fellowship Church, 2577 Schenley Ave. N.E., where Pastor Bill Carter from Believers, and Pastor Joel Dickson of Fowler Community Church officiated.
Pastor Dickson read letters about Carr from family members, including one from Carr's wife, Nina. Dickson also read part of a letter from Carr to his wife.
Carr's brother, Army Sgt. Matthew Carr gave the eulogy.
"Rob was always proud, but he would be so proud now because of all the people that came to the service to honor him," Matthew Carr said.
He added that his little brother "died to protect us ... so we can all continue to live free."
About 60 members of The Patriot Guard, a national organization of motorcycle enthusiasts who attend military funerals and honor returning veterans, were stationed outside the church and at Dugan Cemetery in Fowler, where Carr was to be buried this afternoon.
